- Any lumping or bumps created by moving your lips can be dissolved easily
- There may be less bruising
- Minimal risk of allergic reactions because HA is similar to a substance found in the body

Don’t Over Wash Your Face
At first glance this advice may not make sense, especially because dirt is what causes most skin problems. However, your skin’s natural oils protect your skin and keep it moist. Stripping your skin of these natural, vital oils by washing your face too often can cause dryness and irritation. This can make your skin look dull and aged.
I think we all can agree that too much sun is not healthy for skin, however, no one wants to be a shut in when it’s a beautiful sunny day. Some tips are to use sunscreen everyday, the reason why its important for daily use is because even when driving you are exposing your skin to harmful rays. Many dermatologist recommend finding a full-spectrum sunscreen of SPF 15 to wear every day. This could be difficult to add to your daily routine, so finding a moisturizer that has at least SPF 15 is another solution.
Everyone has sleeping positions that they prefer, so this tip may put a damper on your day. However, sleeping on one side over the years can pre-dispose your sleep lines to become permanent lines etched in your skin. Sleeping on your back is the best way to avoid sleep lines all together. If this just is not possible, then try silk pillowcases - they help because the skin glides over the them easily and is thought to produce less wrinkles. In either case, getting 7 to 9 hours of sleep a day can make such a big difference in your overall health as well as aging.
This is a habit that is purely recreational, but has so many negative effects, like aging and cancer, that should make you think about quitting. However, it is proven that smoking accelerates aging. Have you seen the images of twins that have one who did smoke and one that didn’t? The differences are astonishing. The twin that didn’t smoke looks more than 10 years younger. The toxins and carcinogens that damage your skin, among other organs, by smoking greatly diminishes your skin’s youth.
When UV rays are absorbed into your skin, they create free radicals and these free radicals are volatile molecules. They can latch onto your DNA and cause mutations, which in turn cause wrinkles. Antioxidants (found in pomegranates, acai, blueberries and green tea) helpy our body defend against these free radicals that attempt to cause wrinkles. Omega-3s are also high in antioxidants, but also has an added benefit of fatty acids. These fatty acids are what helps the cell membrane act as a barrier to things that are harmful and is the pathway for nutrients to cross in and out for the cells waste. Thus preventing wrinkles and skin aging.
If you have any questions about anti-aging, it’s important to consult a skin care professional. Getting advice on what works best for your body is always going to give you better results.

According the the annual ASPS report, anti aging cosmetic procedures have increased by 104% since the millenium, totalling 15.1 million cosmetic procedures in 2013. The most popular of the anti aging procedures are the minimally invasive procedures, such as injectables and laser skin treatments.
Injectables have become popular mainly for these 6 benefits:

- Results can last from 4 months to 1 year

Laser skin rejuvenation treatments are in high demand for these 6 reasons:

Skin cancer is the most common cancer in the US, with over 2 million people diagnosed with skin cancer every year. Over the past three decades more people have had skin cancer than all other cancers combined. For that reason it is good to know what risks encourage unnatural skin cell growth.
Risk factors for developing cancer:
- Too much exposure to the sun
- Fair skin
- Family history of skin cancer
- People over the age of 40 are at higher risk of developing skin cancer
There are three different types of skin cancer; basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and melanoma. Basal cell carcinoma is the most common and the easiest to treat. It affects the cells in the top layers of the skin and does not spread. Squamous cell carcinoma is also usually easy to treat, affecting the cells in the middle layer of the skin and does not spread either. Melanoma is the most serious type of skin cancer because it tends to spread and can affect the organs of the body. It can be fatal in some cases, although if caught early, it is also often treatable.
It is very important to examine your skin every so often checking for spots that refuse to heal, begin to bleed, remain itchy or just stand out. If you see any changes in appearance of moles or new spots appear you will want to visit a dermatologist.
- Avoid extreme and long exposure to the sun between 10am and 4pm
- Use sunblock, minimum of SPF 15, especially on your nose and ears daily
- Avoid sunburns, by re-applying sunblock every 2-3 hours
- After you have been in the water, reapply your sunblock to ensure protection
- Do not make regular trips to the tanning booths, they can also cause skin cancers
The popularity of dermal fillers has been increasing steadily over the last few years. Last year, there was an 18% increase in the number of hyaluronic acid (HA) filler procedures done from over 1.9 million treatments in 2012 to over 2.2 million treatments in 2013. Juvederm is an HA dermal filler created by Allergan, the creators of Botox, that has gained a great deal of popularity among doctors and patients because it does not form clumps or bumps since it readily diffuses into the tissues. For doctors this is great because they do not have to mold and work the Juvederm fillers into the tissue to shape and contour the face. Allergan has released two products that have become quite popular, Juvederm XC and Juvederm Voluma XC. Since the release of several other products in the Juvederm product line, there has been some confusion with the difference between these various dermal fillers. Here are the major differences between these two fillers.
Juvederm XC, also referred to as Juvederm Ultra, is FDA approved to correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds around the mouth and nose. Juvederm combines its smooth-consistency, injectable gel with pain-reducing lidocaine for additional comfort during the treatment. Juvederm has gained its popularity because aside from resolving dynamic wrinkles, it can be used to lift and contour facial features. Juvederm has been reported to last up to one year after the initial treatment.
Juvederm Voluma XC
While majority of dermal fillers address wrinkles, that is not the only sign of aging. In fact, a key sign of aging is loss of fullness or volume in the face. As we age, facial fat loss, gravity and loss of the skins natural elasticity can also attribute to the appearance of old age.
Juvederm Voluma XC became popular quite quickly because it is the only FDA approved hyaluronic acid facial filler that will instantly restore age-related volume loss in the mid-face (the cheeks, cheekbones and around the chin). Juvederm Voluma has been reported to last up to 2 years, which is longer than any other dermal fillers.
If you are looking to switch dermal fillers or are going to start, its important to talk to a local physician or aesthetician about what the best solution is for your body.
Cosmetic surgical procedures tend to have a certain connotation to the word. When thinking about having a cosmetic surgical procedure many patients tend to think about the risks, pain, recovery time, costs of surgery, or even how long to take off of work. Because of this, many people stray away from the requirements of a cosmetic surgery and instead choose non-surgical options that do not require as much as cosmetic surgeries do.
Non-surgical procedures like injectables were created, to provide immediate results for minor improvements with minimal risks, little to no downtime and, better yet, at a fraction of the cost. Introducing the Liquid Facelift. A liquid facelift involves a combination of dermal fillers and/or injectables injected into specific and targeted areas of the face to achieve similar results that of a cosmetic surgical facelift.
The major differences between a liquid facelift and a surgical facelift are:
The results are not permanent, like any filler or freezer the results are temporary as the filler and freezer substances are absorbed by your body over time.
In the short term, the costs are much less than a surgical facelift, however, due to the transient nature of injectables the costs can add up over time.
A liquid facelift does not remove sagging skin in your neck area.
The liquid facelift is great if you don’t have the down-time for the recovery of a surgical facelift. Liquid facelifts have no downtime.
- If you are concerned about the pain, recovery, risks and cost of a surgical facelift, a Liquid Facelift is great alternative.
Another common question among patients is what treatments are used during a liquid facelift? A treatments used in a liquid facelift will determined by your skin care provider as each treatment depends on the individual. Most Liquid Lifts will include dermal fillers such as Juvederm, Juvederm Voluma, Radiesse and Restylane used in conjunction with injections of botulinum toxin, like Botox and Dysport.
Botulinum toxins work by blocking nerve impulses to the injected muscles reducing muscle activity and thus smoothing out the area. Dermal fillers restore lost facial volume by filling in crevices, smoothing wrinkles and restoring facial contours.
Depending on the individual and the injectables used, the results can last up to 1-2 years as some injectables have a longer life than others. Although we can’t stop aging, we can certainly delay the effects with a liquid facelift. Consult your local physician, nurse or aesthetician to find out if a liquid facelift is the right solution for you.
