Botox Cosmetic – Is it Right For You?

Only you and a qualified doctor can determine if it's right for you, and if you're looking for  Botox Cosmetic in the Manhattan beach area this blog post will provide some very relevant information for  you.  First, let's talk about what Botox is and how you go about having the procedure done.

First and foremost just be aware that it involves injection of Botox directly into the skin, so if you're squeamish about needles or shots you'll want to know that up front.  It's the price of beauty, right?  Overall, the goal is to reduce the visible signs of aging, specifically to treat wrinkles, fine lines and crow's feet. I recommend this procedure to patients who want younger, more vibrant skin. Botox is a great alternative to other cosmetic treatments because it does not require general anesthesia or cutting.

Who Is A Good Candidate for Botox?

The ideal candidate for Botox cosmetic is someone who is between the age of 18 and 65. Interested candidates should also be in good physical and mental health. Additionally, people who want to get Botox cosmetic should have realistic expectations.  It is important to note that Botox is not recommended for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding.  I always perform a thorough evaluation on my patients to make sure that they are good candidates for Botox.

How Long Do The Results of Botox Last?

For most patients, the results of Botox will last anywhere from four to six months. However, it is important to note that individual results can vary. Patients will have to periodically get Botox injections if they want to maintain the results.

What Are Some of The Potential Side Effects of Botox?

Botox is a very safe procedure, and the vast majority of my patients do not have any problems with it. Temporary bruising is one of the most common side effects, but it will usually subside with two weeks. Eyelid drooping, headache and allergic reaction are other potential side effects, but those are extremely rare.

How Do I Prepare To Get Botox?

Patients who consume alcohol should avoid drinking for at least one week prior to their procedure. I also recommend that patients avoid taking anti-inflammatory medications at least two weeks prior to their procedure. Anti-inflammatory medications have been shown to increase the risk of bleeding.

Is Botox Painful?

Patients may experience discomfort during this procedure, but it is usually brief and minimal.  If the patient is concerned about the discomfort, then I will numb the area with a topical anesthetic or cold pack prior to administering the injections.

How Long Does This Procedure Take?

The entire Botox procedure can be completed in about 10 minutes. In fact, many of my patients come in my office during their lunch break, get the procedure done, and then go right back to work. There is no downtime necessary.
