With the average life expectancy on the rise, the anti-aging argument has become much more compelling. As people are living longer and more active lives, the need to look as young as you feel has increased tremendously. According the the annual ASPS report, anti aging cosmetic procedures have increased by 104% since the millenium, totalling 15.1 million cosmetic procedures in 2013. The most popular of the anti aging procedures are the minimally invasive procedures, such as injectables and laser skin treatments.

Injectables have become popular mainly for these 6 benefits:

  1. Treatment is fast and easy
  2. Each treatment is painless
  3. No downtime for recovery
  4. Results can last from 4 months to 1 year
  5. Effectively reduce dynamic and static wrinkles/ fine lines by filling creases or relaxing muscles that cause wrinkles
  6. Volumizer injectables can plump and lift cheeks and lips

Laser skin rejuvenation treatments are in high demand for these 6 reasons:

  1. No downtime for recovery
  2. Minimal pain (like a light sunburn)
  3. Softer, Smoother and younger looking skin
  4. Significant improvement in deep wrinkles, lines and folds
  5. Evening skin tone
  6. Improving texture and discoloration of scars

Each of these treatments are suited to address certain problem areas and skin types and it is important to discuss your goals and expectation with a dermatologist or aesthetician before getting these procedures done.

What is a Liquid Face Lift?

Cosmetic surgical procedures tend to have a certain connotation to the word. When thinking about having a cosmetic surgical procedure many patients tend to think about the risks, pain, recovery time, costs of surgery, or even how long to take off of work. Because of this, many people stray away from the requirements of a cosmetic surgery and instead choose non-surgical options that do not require as much as cosmetic surgeries do.

Non-surgical procedures like injectables were created, to provide immediate results for minor improvements with minimal risks, little to no downtime and, better yet, at a fraction of the cost. Introducing the Liquid Facelift. A liquid facelift involves a combination of dermal fillers and/or injectables injected into specific and targeted areas of the face to achieve similar results that of a cosmetic surgical facelift.

The major differences between a liquid facelift and a surgical facelift are:

  1. The results are not permanent, like any filler or freezer the results are temporary as the filler and freezer substances are absorbed by your body over time.

  2. In the short term, the costs are much less than a surgical facelift, however, due to the transient nature of injectables the costs can add up over time.

  3. A liquid facelift does not remove sagging skin in your neck area.

  4. The liquid facelift is great if you don’t have the down-time for the recovery of a surgical facelift. Liquid facelifts have no downtime.

  5. If  you are concerned about the pain, recovery, risks and cost of a surgical facelift, a Liquid Facelift is great alternative.

Another common question among patients is what treatments are used during a liquid facelift? A treatments used in a liquid facelift will determined by your skin care provider as each treatment depends on the individual. Most Liquid Lifts will include dermal fillers such as  Juvederm, Juvederm Voluma, Radiesse and Restylane used in conjunction with injections of botulinum toxin, like Botox and Dysport.

Botulinum toxins work by blocking nerve impulses to the injected muscles reducing muscle activity and thus smoothing out the area. Dermal fillers restore lost facial volume by filling in crevices, smoothing wrinkles and restoring facial contours.

Depending on the individual and the injectables used, the results can last up to 1-2 years as some injectables have a longer life than others. Although we can’t stop aging, we can certainly delay the effects with a liquid facelift. Consult your local physician, nurse or aesthetician to find out if a liquid facelift is the right solution for you.

What’s the difference with the ‘Toxins on the Market?

When doctors, nurses and injectors use the term 'toxins' they aren't referring to anything bad for you.  Well, at least we don't think so.  What they are referring to are a class of neurotoxins affectionately referred to as toxins.  Currently the neurotoxins on the market are Botox Cosmetic, Dysport and Xeomin.

So What's The Difference Between Botox, Dysport & Xeomin?

For starters they are each made by different manufacturer's, although they are each considered large pharmaceutical companies.  Allergan makes Botox Cosmetic, Medicis makes Dysport and Merz Aesthetics makes Xeomin.  The way they work is the same though which is why they are all in the same class of drug.  They paralyze the nerve endings in the areas in which they are injected (frown lines, crows feet and between the eyebrows).

It's tough to say which one works the best as it really just depends on which product your body happens to respond to best.  Botox and Xeomin are dosed at the same strength while Dysport normally takes twice as much product to get a good effect.  Again, it just depends on your body and which particular product you respond to the best.

Where Do You Get Botox, Dysport or Xeomin?

See your doctor, dermatologist and/or medispa.  These products are administered only under the care of a qualified injector so you'll want to do your homework.  The skill level of the injector will play a role in how good your result is.
