Should 20 Somethings Have Botox?

Recently there's been a lot of noise about younger people choosing to have Botox Cosmetic and whether or not this is a good thing for them to do at this young age. The mindset that these 20 something year old's are taking is that they want to prevent wrinkles before they happen and they feel that Botox is something that can help them in the fight against aging.

And if you're not familiar with Botox, where have you been!  It's a neurotoxin that is injected into wrinkles, and/or little folds in the face that relaxes the surrounding muscles and nerve endings causing the wrinkles to smooth out.  It's become a beauty secret among many women across the world today.  Actually, I shouldn't leave the men out as many men are now choosing this simple treatment to get rid of unwanted facial wrinkles.

The Media's Spin On 20 Somethings Having Botox

The media has chosen to highlight 2 main issues; safety and effectivness of having the treatment at 20 something versus having it later in life to treat existing wrinkles or problem areas.  The main story goes on to say that of the 6.1 million Botox injections performed in 2012 almost 100,000 of those injections were for patients in their 20's which represents about a 10% increase from the previous reporting period.

A dermatologist is quoted as saying, "the younger you start the younger looking you will stay."  Which I'm quite sure not all dermatologists will agree with.

Should 20 Something Year Old's Start Botox Treatments Before They Begin To Age?

There's been no real definitive conclusions on this, some have started as early as 18 but many dermatologists say they refuse to inject anyone under age 30.  It's really a personal decision between you and your doctor that you'll need to make if you're considering it and you're in your 20's (or even younger).  More information on the ABC new story here.
